I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Miami University and spent my early career in leadership development, training, recruiting and human resources management in the banking industry. I enjoyed many aspects of my business career and am most grateful for the experience, but felt called to health education and counseling and had a particular interest in nutrition. So I earned my Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Winthrop University and became a Registered Dietitian.
Since becoming an RD, I’ve been fortunate to have a variety of experiences from inpatient clinical care to outpatient work with interesting clients and a whole host of health issues. I have particular interest in eating disorders treatment and have worked with clients in both the partial hospitalization setting as well as on an outpatient basis. I constantly pursue training and continuing education opportunities to enhance my ability to help my clients on their journey to a sustainable relationship with food. I am a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor having completed the training, supervision and examination process required for the certification.
I believe that the journey towards better nutrition takes three simultaneous paths. First, understanding the basics of nutrition is critical and I enjoy educating clients about the importance of balanced, adequate nutrition in good health. Second, trusting our bodies and believing in ourselves as our own best guide is foundational to a healthy relationship with food. I work with clients on the practice of intuitive eating as a guide for listening to body signals and responding with a variety of enjoyable foods. Third, accepting our bodies and operating from a place of gratitude about our physical being is critical for strong mental and physical health. Society and the media display ever present images that cause us to compare ourselves to unrealistic ideals and behave in a ways that are detrimental to both our physical and mental health. Learning to embrace and appreciate our bodies is a crucial step towards a healthy relationship with food.
I hope that in working with me you will find a positive, affirming, non-judgmental partner who can help you navigate your own journey towards better health through nutrition.
